JOIN BAND!!!

Beginners join:

2. Sign up for our instrument fair on Tuesday July 22nd from 1-3 to choose an instrument. 

3. Register for Beginner Band Camp and Beginner Band Class

4. Attend Beginner Band Camp on July 28th-Aug 1st from 9am -12 pm.

5. Start lessons and band rehearsals week of August 11th.

Transfer student from public/private school or moving into area:

2. Sign up for a slot at the instrument fair to audition for placement. (Prepare an etude, solo or song that reflects your level of skill. Play two octave chromatic and B flat concert scales.

3. Register for band camp and class based on placements.

4. Attend camp July 28th-Aug 1 from 9 am- 12 pm.

5. Start lessons and band reshearsals week of August 11th.

Southern Star Band is an award-winning band program for homeschooled students in Ellis County and surrounding DFW counties. The program encompasses a great place for music education, friendships, leadership development, performances, contests, and more! 

Band Ensembles

Beginner Band: The Beginner Band is for first-year students who have not previously played the instrument or young students who may have a small amount of band training in another program. Most students will start with the beginner band. Beginner band students will participate in concerts, solo and ensemble performances, and other activities. They will also attend one pep-band night to experience the fun at the end of the football season.

Concert Band: The Concert Band is for students who are at least in their second year and have previously played their instrument. Students new to Southern Star Band but with previous experience will be placed by the band directors by audition. Concert Band students will participate in Pep Band, solo and ensemble contests, concerts, TPSMEA concert and sight reading contest, and music festivals. They also participate in optional TPSMEA region auditions and all-state auditions.
